Three Divorced Women Revealed Some Tips On How Marriages Are Going To Work

Three divorced women have shared some relationship lessons on how their marriages should have worked if second chances were given. They shared these realizations to help other married couples.

According to an article on Huffington Post, a married couple should be on each other's team. A relationship shouldn't be one-sided, it should be two ways.

Lisa shared that she lost her own goals and dreams just to focus on her husband's needs. She said that she had come to realize that she didn't manage to build herself because she sacrificed hers to him.

"Make sure you are a team," Lisa said. "In my situation, I was on my husband's side and so was he. But neither of us were looking out for me anymore. It was very focused on him and that ended up not working out for me."

A married couple should always be transparent with each other according to Tara. They should always communicate with their expectations with their roles in their family so disappointments and arguments can be avoided.

"For instance, he expected me to quit working, raise children, and assume all domestic duties. I had no intention of fulfilling his idea of what a wife should be," Tara said. "We became imprisoned in a life neither of us wanted, each resenting the other for the circumstances we were in. This could've been avoided by better communicating and planning as a team instead of operating from untold expectations."

A married couple should always know when it is necessary to fight, one article claimed. Jackie said that couple should choose their battles wisely because sometimes picking a pointless fight would lead to a divorce.

"Looking back, I wish I would have been quicker to realize arguing is never a good way to get someone's attention, and I would have sought professional help before all those arguments added up to something we couldn't repair," Jackie said.
