Mom Breastfeeds During 135-Mile Bike Ride

A mother did not give up breastfeeding during a 135-mile bike ride held last January in Northern Minnesota. Sveta Vold wanted to keep going, but believed that there is nothing more important than a baby. So with the help of her husband, the mom with the winning mentality continued breastfeeding at checkpoints during the race.

Dan Vold, Sveta's husband, showed up with Yeva, their daughter at the checkpoints, one of which was 80 miles along the trail, She managed to stop and breastfeed. "With breastfeeding and pumping during the race, which took about 15 - 20 minutes each time, you could not think about racing. I was just relaxing during the race and not worrying about my place - just keep going," Sveta shared, according to GearJunkie.

The biking, running, and skiing race along Arrowhead State Snowmobile Trail from International Falls to Tower, Minnesota called The Arrowhead 135 Ultra is held every January at the coldest part of the lower 48 States in the US. It is a 30-hour long race of endurance. Almost less than half of the contestants are able to finish, according to CBS Minnesota.

Vold won the second spot on the said competition in 2015 and was determined to continue racing this year. So when she found out that she was going to deliver two months before the competition, she was disappointed. Yet she did not allow her conception to get in the way of her courage. "Why not? I did it before. How hard the race is is not something new to me," said Sveta.

During the whole period of her pregnancy, Vold continued her training. She went on a half marathon and twice did a ten-mile bike ride which made her family think that she was crazy. Even after giving birth which most people would think as a weak moment in a woman's life, Sveta pushed through with her training, brought her daughter in a stroller and started running again, according to Daily Mail.

The determined mother who won't give up won the third place in the competition. "My experience can show ... you can," she said. "You can still ride a bicycle and still can have a baby," concluded Vold, according to Parenting.
