Easy Gardening For Parents; These Plants Don't Even Need Much Water!

If you are looking for a fun and educational way to bond with your children, try gardening. Gardening can be fulfilling and rewarding, and it has been proven to reduce stress among parents and children alike.

Real Simple got the advice of Professional landscaper and host of DIY Network's Yard Crashers' Chris Lambton and garden expert Christy Dailey as they share their favorite low maintenance plants that will help you save water and make your life easier.

 1. Yarrow

This plant thrives in hot conditions and actively blooms in May and June. It comes in different colors like pink, purple, and yellow. "Place it near plants that flower earlier in the spring, such as tulips, or ones that flower later in the summer, like Black-eyed Susans," says Chris Lambton.

 2. Lamb's Ear

"It doesn't love hot and humid, so it's a great choice for dry climates. It does well in partial-to-full sun," says Lambton. During winter time, it usually appears dead until the first days of spring come. But Lambton stresses out that this herb spreads fast as it grows. That's why it would be good to plan where to plant it.

 3. Butterfly Weed

This plant prefers a dry sandy soil and requires very little amount of water. "These plants yield beautiful clusters of bright orange flowers that attract butterflies, especially Monarchs," says garden expert Christy Dailey of christygardens. These plants usually bloom from May to September.

 4. Rosemary

"It loves the sun and can hold up well in dry conditions," says Lambert. Not only it's nice to look at, it's also great for your evening marinades! "Since this is an evergreen plant, you'll want to prune it regularly to maintain a good shape-and if you're using it to cook-the freshest taste," the Yard Crashers' host added.  A word of advise though, if you live in colder regions, bring the plant indoors when it starts getting chilly because it only thrives in warm regions.
