Flu Season: Everything You Need To Know And Do To Protect Family's Health

Flu is among the easiest diseases that any one of the family can contract, which means that once someone starts coughing or sneezing, it will take only for awhile before most, if not all, family members will be doing the same thing.

So before someone catches the first bout of flu, it is necessary that parents are stocked up on things that the family would need before the outbreak begins.

Here is a list of must-haves for the magazine cabinet:

Ready your standard flu medicines so you get to eliminate the spread of virus when it begins to hit the first victim in your home. You know the list: Motrin, Tylenol and Cold Medicines. Also, don't forget vitamin C supplements to help boost the immune system.

Make sure you have cotsco-sized Clorox wipes intended for cleaning surfaces that may or may not be prone to virus -- doorknobs, sink handles, remote control and even gadgets, especially if you share your phones and tablets to your kids.

Vicks Vapor Rub is great for congestion. Today's Mama noted that the regular tub may be a bit too strong for the kids though, but fret not, a baby's formula is also available in case your kids get fussy about the vapor.

Throw-up bags so that you won't have to rinse out bowls and buckets all the time. Vomit bags, called "Emesis Sack" can be thrown directly to the garbage. Plain and easy, right?

Healing oils will probably not do too much, but adding a drop or two of lavender on your kids pillow will help them feel more comfortable in their sleep. Fox News noted that lavender oils have antiviral and antibacterial properties and can promote sleep and relaxation. Other essential oils you could use are peppermint, eucalyptus, tee tree and Roman chamomile.

Chicken Noodle Soup is the ultimate flu food. While making your recipe from scratch is tons better, sometimes, it is easier to keep them in the pantry for when you're running around taking care of sick kids, or worse, when you're sick as well.
