Michelle Obama Urge The Public To Change The Conversation Around Mental Health

Mental health is something that should be taken care of first hand. Though it may not seem like an immediate need, it is something that should be taken care of. Seeking help when it comes to mental health struggles such as depression takes a lot of courage as it is something sensitive. The First Lady, Michelle Obama shared her thoughts in spreading mental health awareness.

In one of Huffington Post's article, Michelle Obama shared her insights on mental health. She then voiced out her frustrations stating that the stigmas around mental health would usually prohibit those who are in need to voice out their concerns.

"Sadly, too often, the stigma around mental health prevents people who need help from seeking it," the First Lady said. "But that simply doesn't make any sense. Whether an illness affects your heart, your arm or your brain, it's still an illness, and there shouldn't be any distinction. "

The first lady then added that it is encouragement plays a vital role when it comes to helping people suffering from mental health problems. Those who are suffering from anxiety and depression needs help the most. She also cited the importance of giving these people the help they need. She pointed out that asking for help is opposite of being weak as he stated that talking about one's mental health issue is the first step of bravery.

"We would never tell someone with a broken leg that they should stop wallowing and get it together," Michelle Obama stated. "We don't consider taking medication for an ear infection something to be ashamed of. We shouldn't treat mental health conditions any differently. Instead, we should make it clear that getting help isn't a sign of weakness - it's a sign of strength - and we should ensure that people can get the treatment they need.
