Kylie Jenner Vs Kylie Minogue: Singer Blocking Teen Star's 'Kylie' Trademark - Find Out Why!

Australian pop superstar Kylie Minogue is gunning for reality TV star Kylie Jenner as the latter expressed intent to trademark the name "Kylie."

World Intellectual Property Review reported that Jenner submitted an application to trademark the name at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in August 2015. However, Minogue's lawyers sought to oppose the application and submitted their notice Monday, Feb. 22 after learning that the 18-year-old has updated her application to trademark "Kylie" for entertainment purposes.

The Notice of Opposition stated that Jenner's potential trademark could cause confusion as Minogue also uses her name in her brands. Aside from her recordings and other entertainment endeavors, the "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" singer also has her cosmetic products and personal care line. Her lawyers stated that she has existing product trademarks for "Kylie," "Kylie Darling" and "Lucky -The Kylie Musical" in the United States Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The lawyers also pointed out that Minogue owns the website Kylie.com, and that the singer doesn't want her name associated with a "secondary reality television personality."

"Ms. Jenner is active on social media where her photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts have drawn criticism from, e.g., the Disability Rights and African-American communities," the lawyer's statement read, per New Zealand Herald. In contrast, the lawyers highlighted that Minogue is a "internationally renowned performing artist, humanitarian, and breast cancer activist."

Minogue also took to Twitter to express her claim to the name, adding the hashtag #lightyears, which fans interpreted to mean she's been in the entertainment and beauty care business long before Kris Jenner's daughter.

Apart from appearing in "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," Jenner is also the owner of the fast-selling "Kylie Lip Kit" makeup product.
