Father Charged For Shaking Baby to Death

A 21-year-old dad is now behind bars after he shook his 6-month-old son to death. The father reportedly caused his baby to experience the Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Fox San Antonio reported that Juan Pablo Rodriguez Lira "violently" shook son Pablo Osvaldo when he was watching him as the infant's mother took a shower. It noted that the baby vomited then passed out after the shaking.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared to be in critical condition. However, he later succumbed to serious brain injuries.

According to Kens5, the father was upset before he mishandled his baby. He was initially charged with injury to a child but since baby Pablo died, other charges are expected to be filed against him.

It was noted in a KSAT report that the young dad admitted to investigators the violent act on his son. He claimed that the kid became unresponsive after throwing up, prompting his mother to call 911.

"We saw a lot of flashing lights and we noticed that the paramedics ran to the ambulance with their about 6-month-old baby," said neighbor Aundrea Barrientos. She added that she holding on her own son the entire day on Monday as medical personnel and the police responded to their area.

"We're so sad to hear that the baby passed away," Barrientos said. "We wanted to pay our condolences to them."

Lira was immediately arrested by the San Antonio police following the death of his son. The Bexar Country Medical Examiner, as per KSAT, has not yet released the autopsy results on the infant. The test results will determine the exact cause of his death.

A San Antonio Police Department spokesperson said other charges against Lira will be determined based on the autopsy results. The spokesperson noted that he could possibly be facing capital murder charges.
