Singer Carly Smithson Welcomes Daughter

Carly Smithson is a new mom.

The 29-year-old singer and her husband Todd Smithson welcomed their first child, a baby girl on Sunday. The overjoyed mother shared her happiness with her well-wishers on Twitter.

"I'd like to introduce you all to my new baby Olivia Mabel Smithson. Born September 30th at 10.55 pm," she wrote after posting a photo of her newborn.

Messages have been pouring into the new moms Twitter account since then.

"Welcome to the world Olivia! Carly she is beautiful Congratulations!!" one of her 24,152 followers wrote while another one added: "She's gorgeous!"

Smithson, who started singing from age four, has also tried a hand in acting and has appeared in a few commercials. Smithson, a high school dropout born in Ireland shifted to the U.S. to work on her career in music.

She later married Todd Smithson, a tattoo artist in San Diego. In June, the couple confirmed pregnancy.

Smithson became popular after she participated in the seventh season of "American Idol" in 2007 and became one of the first foreign contestants to reach the show's top levels and grabbing sixth.

She released her album "Ultimate High" in 2001. She is now the lead singer of gothic metal band We Are the Fallen.

"I'm used to it," Smithson told the People about being the only girl in the band. "My husband Todd and I own a tattoo shop, and there are all these big, tattooed dudes who make fun of accent. It's the same with these guys, except they play instruments."
