Facebook is Prime News Source for Every Third Adult in the U.S.

Gone are the days when newspapers and TV were sources of news for the masses. A latest survey by Pew Research Center found that every third person in the U.S. get their daily dose of news via Facebook.

Although, it is sheer incidental, but this widely used social networking site has become a source of news for almost half of the country's population. This happens while checking updates from friends and other groups, the study found.

However, just 4 percent of those surveyed said that Facebook was the prime source of news for them. The researchers found that youngsters between the ages of 18 and 29 accounted for almost one third of Facebook news subscribers.

The researchers, examined data collected from 5,173 participants between August 21 and September 2, 2013. Around 38 percent of those who followed news religiously said that Facebook served as an important news source for them. Out of 3,268 Facebook users,  1,429 stayed updated with the news through this social media.

"If it wasn't for Facebook news," one of said, "I'd probably never really know what's going on in the world because I don't have time to keep up with the news on a bunch of different locations."

Facebook addiction is not new. Most of the people, especially young adults, are hooked on to this networking site just to stay in touch with their friends, know about the interesting things happening in the world; and some simply to update others about their lives.
