Arthritis Diet Tips: 5 Foods That Can Trigger Your Arthritis

Arthritis can spoil the individual's ability to perform his daily tasks. There are about 52.5 million adults who have been diagnosed with some form of arthritis, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Medical News Today states that symptoms of arthritis include the swelling and pains in the joints, feet, wrists and hands. Its causes are unknown. On the other hand, health experts said that it may be genetic, hormone and environmental factors. The treatments of arthritis include medications, weight loss, non-pharmacologic therapies, splints or joint assistive aids, physical or occupational therapy and surgery.

There are ways to prevent arthritis. One of these is by eating food that can lower the risk of arthritis and avoid food that can trigger or worsen it. Healthline listed following foods that you should avoid if you have arthritis:

1.  Fried & Processed Food

According to a study at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, eating less fried and processed food can lessen the inflammation and rebuild the body natural defenses. These include fried meat and frozen meals.

2.   Dairy Products

Dairy products contain protein that can contribute to the pains of arthritis. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine said that these proteins may aggravate the tissues around the joints.

3.  Salt & Preservatives

Consuming foods with a lot of salt and preservatives may trigger inflammation of the joints. It is advisable to reduce the intake of salt. Avoid foods that are salty and with preservatives.

4.  Sugar & Refined Carbs

Too much intake of sugar can increase the AGE or the advanced glycation end product. This is a toxin which is present in foods that are grilled, pasteurized, heated or fried. This results in inflammation of joints.

5.  Corn Oil

Foods that contain corn oil are some snacks and baked goods, which can induce inflammation. Limit or avoid the intake of foods that have corn oil.
