Study Shows That Setting A High or Low Standard In Relationships Affect Your Happiness

A new study claims that people in America are not exactly satisfied with their relationships that they are longing for something more. One of the suggestions to manage having a happy relationship with a romantic partner is to have high and maintain high standards.

Scientists said that marriages in America usually work when the couple involved has a high standard in their relationship. However, this doesn't work all the time because there are also its negative side. Here are two things that happens in setting a standard in your relationship:

1. Prepare To Be Disappointed: In an article published by Bustle, people whose standards are way too high in their relationship are in it for a huge disappointment the romance department, especially when their partner ends up not delivering their expectation.

2. Depression: On the other hand if you lower your standard, you will end up being used and you could expect an unhappy outcome after selling yourself short. Consequently, you would be depressed knowing that you are not getting the kind of love that you deserve that you would even suffer from having low self-esteem.

According to NYMag, researchers had about 135 newlywed participants to see how having a high or low standard in relationship has affected their marriage for four years. And based on the data they have gathered, those who chose to have their standards set high get some good and satisfying relationship throughout those years.

Keeping your standards high result in a healthy relationship. Here are some tips to do just that:

1. Never Settle For Second Best: If you know that the best is still out there, you don't have to settle for someone you don't really even like just because they are the one that is available.

2. Never Compromise: Stick to your principle and your standards. Some people would actually challenge it. Stay Strong!

3. Don't Base Your Standard From Others: It is pretty self-explanatory. You must have your own principle.
