22-Year Old Woman Suffers from Me, Has Been Lying in Bed for the Past Seven Years

A 22-year old woman suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) has the bone structure of a 100-year old person because her illness requires her to just lay in the bed for the past seven years, according to the Daily Mail.

Jessica Taylor, a former netball captain says she lost everything when severe ME caused her to be bedridden and eventually develop the bones of a 100-year old. For four continuous years, she has been confined at the hospital and for seven years, has been lying on a bed, unable to move freely or sit down. While at the hospital, Jessica became so ill that she found it impossible to recognize even her family members. She also had to be fed through a tube and was unable to move any other part of her body except her head.

After seven years of being in bed, Jessica is now suffering from osteoporosis. She remains to be extremely weak, making it impossible for her to sit up and move. "My life is a world of one room. The ME caused me to lose everything in the end. I've got a fight on my hands and I believe I am going to get better." Prior to her diagnosis, Jessica suffered from a flu which she never recovered from and despite trying to push herself, her health deteriorated within a span of just nine months. She first fell ill at the age of 14.

"I loved life and I wanted to be out there living it. I put my illness to the back of my mind thinking it would go, but it didn't happen that way. I was a lover of life and until ME hit, I was always out doing things. I tried to push myself, I wanted to achieve things and I wanted to do what everyone else was doing. It was shocking - I had gone from being a healthy captain of netball to being stuck in a wheelchair. The irony is that now a wheelchair would represent freedom for me."
