Seven Year-Old Boy Suffers from Epilepsy Drug Reaction that Makes Skin Shed Like a Snake

A seven-year old boy has been suffering from epilepsy drug reaction that causes his skin to shed like a snake, according to the Daily Mail.

Oakley Orange was diagnosed with epilepsy and was given a series of medication. However, 12 days after taking the tablets, the young boy started complaining of headache, colds and even developed rashes. Soon enough, his entire body burst into blisters and his toenails and fingernails eventually fell out leaving him looking as though he suffered from a serious burn. His condition, also known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) causes the cells in the skin to die before shedding, pretty much like that of a snake.

The most severe reaction that Oakley experienced is losing 100 percent of his skin and damaging his internal organs. He has been on life support machines and is sedated for three weeks to make it possible for his body to recover. However, Oakley's parents, Lorraine, 45 and Steven, 43 have been warned by doctors that their son's survival rate is only up to 65 percent. Lorraine has lobbied the drugs company to include a warning on medication.

"It is the most horrific thing for a parent to have to see their child suffer in the way Oakley has. You feel so helpless. It has been the worst thing I could ever describe, devastating. He is in agony - and usually he is such a happy little boy. He loves playing on his Xbox and riding his bike and his scooter. Now he can't even open his eyes. Everybody who meets him falls in love with him. I know I'm biased because I'm his mom but Oakley is the sort of little boy that, when you meet him, you don't forget him."
