Teenager Recovers from Coma After Taking Fish Oil

A 17-year old boy from California recovers from a crash that left him in a comatose state in September, according to NY Daily News.

Grant Virgin was involved in a near-tragic car accident in September when an unidentified woman crashed into him and drove off. Virgin was in a coma but his family tried all types of treatments to bring him back to life. Now, Grant is recovering and his family says they owe it all to fish oil. Prior to this medical option, doctors in charge of Grant already informed his family that he could not make it. He had fractures in his skull, clavicle, femurs and heel. His liver and spleen were also lacerated and his aorta was crushed.

"They told us to let him go," said Grant's mother, JJ, a celebrity nutritionist. "It's like, how dare you not fight for my son's life? It really took us, getting very aggressive and assertive to save our son's life because they weren't going to do it." From this, Grant's family decided to transfer him to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. There they tried all types of treatments including high doses of omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil.

"If you have a brick wall and it gets damaged, wouldn't you want to use bricks to repair it?" said Dr. Michael Lewis, founder of the Brain Health Education and Research Institute. "By supplementing using omega-3 fatty acids in substantial doses, you provide the foundation for the brain to repair itself." Although there have not been a lot of researches on the effects of fish oil, Grant's doctors believe it helped stopped inflammation in his brain.
