Café Catering to Breastfeeding Moms Slapped With Criticisms

Breastfeeding is still considered by some as a taboo topic. Just recently, a Sydney café providing comfort to breastfeeding moms has been criticized by people on the internet.

The Willows Café & Wine was slammed by critics when the Today Show posted a sign from the café on its Facebook page. The establishment offers a free cup of tea to breastfeeding moms who need a pit stop for their hungry babies. The moms don't even need to ask for permission or to order a meal.

Accusations

Comments from people on the internet are a mixed bunch. Some have commended the café's move, while others called the scheme a discrimination against men and moms who bottle feed their babies. One man called breastfeeding women "slappers that just love attention" and accused the café owner as someone who likes to have a woman's breasts out for him to see, News.co.au reported.

Moms praised the café's move. However, one commenter insisted that it's better if bottle feeders are also given a pit stop to demonstrate equality, adding that the café should not be singling out women, the Daily Mail reported.

Positive Comments

The majority of the commenters, however, have positive reactions about the sign and said that the scheme had no connection with the breast versus bottle debate. Cafe owner Natala Bain told the Daily Mail that they want breastfeeding moms to "feel welcome and comfortable" in the establishment.

The Unicef U.K. Baby Friendly Initiative has launched a program called Call to Action in response to the breastfeeding conversation that has been ongoing for a while now. The initiative urges the U.K. and other governments to execute four key actions that will cultivate a supportive environment for moms who want to breastfeed their child.

Adele Fires Back At People Pressuring Women To Breastfeed

Last month, Adele has fired back at people pressuring women to breastfeed. Her statement, which she declared during a concert at London's O2 Arena, was directed to celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who said that women not breastfeeding their child is a problem in England.

The British singer said the pressure is absurd, adding that it's hard for some women to breastfeed, Just Jared reported. Adele told the crowd that she's one of those moms who can't breastfeed, adding that she was only able to do it for nine weeks.
