Parent Volunteer Tips: 5 Easy Ways For Parents To Volunteer At Their Child's School

Do you want to volunteer at your kid's school but cannot do so because of your hectic schedule? Fortunately, there are some ways for you to become a parent volunteer without putting in too much time and effort.

Being a parent volunteer and attending school meetings can help you get to know and understand your child's world much better. Today's Parent shares some of the simplest ways for parents to volunteer at their children's school.

1. Help Organize Paperwork

One great way for you to become a parent volunteer is to help organize school paperwork. Just let the school council know that you are available and how much paperwork you can handle.

2. Donate Books Or Toys

Another easy way to get involved in your child's school is by donating toys or books to the school. Take time to get to know your child's teacher and inspect the school library while donating toys and books.

3. Collect Money To Buy Gifts

"Offer to collect money (e-transfers make this job easy) and purchase a gift or gift card on behalf of the class's parents," Today's Parent advises. This can ease a lot of parents' burden in finding gifts for everybody.

4. Propose A School Clean-Up

Most schools would be more than happy to have a parent lead a clean-up inside the school. "Offer to come in and wash down the art sinks, scrub out the class pet's cage or aquarium, or help sort through the paperwork with students during end-of-term desk cleanouts," Today's Parent suggests.

5. Give A Career Talk

Another useful way to become a parent volunteer is by offering to give an educational and inspirational career talk to students. Career talks can help students realize which career they want to have, the values they need in order to succeed and the skills necessary for a particular career path, University of the Pacific shares.
