5-year-old girl saves her dad's life by giving him a life-saving injection

A 5-year-old girl saved her father's life by giving him an injection minutes after he fell into a diabetic coma, according to the Daily Mail.

Holly Price found her father, Barry Barkess, 27, passed out on the sofa and immediately injected into his stomach glucagon, a hormone that aids in increasing blood sugar levels.

Barkess fell into a hypoglycemic coma at around 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday in his home in Stanley, County Durham and was unconscious for a few minutes.

"I must have passed out on the sofa and Holly has woken up, found out I wasn't in bed and came down," he said.

"I stood up and fell back down again because [during an episode] you've got no use in your limbs. I was crawling into the kitchen, but she knew what to do. It probably would have killed me if she was not there."

Barkess and Holly's mother, Sandra, taught Holly that her father needs an injection whenever he feels unwell. However, Holly has never had to actually do it on her own until now. After injecting her dad with glucagon, she called her mother on his mobile phone and waited for her until she arrived.

"I have been living on my own for almost two years and she has never had to deal with anything like this. For her to come along out of the blue and remember everything is amazing. I am overwhelmed that the information Sandra and I gave Holly has been understood and acted on at such a young age," Barry Barkess said.
