PS4 Neo, Xbox One Slim, Nintendo NX News & Update: AMD Confirms New Console Chips For Mid-2016; One Console Coming Out First

Speculations about the release of new consoles in 2016, namely the PS4 Neo, Xbox One Slim and the Nintendo NX, have been further boosted over the weekend as an AMD executive confirmed its company is developing new console chips for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. One of these gaming giants is likely to come out with its latest console ahead of the pack.

AMD CEO Lisa T. Su presented the company's report to its investors Friday and stated that it has new products underway. She described these as "new design wins" for AMD, which will draw big numbers - specifically $1.5 billion - for the company in the next three or four years.

Keeping Hush

She referred to these designs as related to the "game console business," per Game Industry BizHowever, she didn't specify if these are the much-buzzed about PS4 Neo, Xbox One Slim and the Nintendo NX. 

"I don't believe that we've gone through any detail about what those wins are," said Su. "So I would prefer to let that come out as our customers are ready to launch."

The CEO added that these new game consoles won't begin with its manufacturing process until the next year, except perhaps for one. However, plans have started to "ramp up" among industry insiders. Su is confident about these developments and expect that AMD will be getting busy for the second half of 2016.

Geek reported that the PS4 Neo, the upgrade to PS4, is likely coming out ahead of the Xbox One Slim and Nintendo NX, despite the lack of announcements from Sony for now. Mega Games that the Nintendo NX could be unveiled during the E3 in June, but the console won't be in the market till early 2017.

Meanwhile, as Xbox recently announced it is game over for the Xbox 360, the gaming company is speculated to be coming out with a new and upgraded console too, Parent Herald previously reported. Gamers believe this won't happen until the latter part of 2017, even as Microsoft insisted there are no plans.

AMD developed the hardware chips or gaming processors for the PlayStation and the Xbox in its previous console releases. Ars Technica reports that Nintendo likely tapped the company's services since its next console is rumored to be more powerful the than upcoming PS4, which means it should have a better-performing chip.
