College Success Study: Why University of Washington Cheerleading Squad 'Tryout Look' Checklist Unleashes Unprecedented Outrage?

If you read the University of Washington' s guidance on how to look for cheerleader tryouts on its poster, as an incoming college student, would you feel excited and would be itching to try? Or feel utterly offended, discriminated or just mixed emotions? Most of those who read the list on social media were against the entire list of demands. The post was removed on Tuesday after receiving such an unprecedented outrage.

The post was removed after the department "determined that some of the details and descriptions provided were inconsistent with the values of the UW spirit program and department of athletics." according toSeattle Times report.

Some incoming students and their parents maybe curious about what on earth happened to UW. Let's see the image of ideal cheerleader posted on Facebook of Washington State University Cheer on Monday night, four days before Husky cheerleader tryouts:

A white girl student with blond hair and a sweet smile posing in shorts and a sports bra, along with the some Do's tips of "bronze, beachy glow", "false lashes", "town lipstick" "physically fit" with "an athletic physique" "natural tan", "solid black sports bra"; and Don'ts of "dark, smoky eyes", "nude lips", "visible tattoos", "colors other than solid black"...

As a future girl student, how do you think about that? Do you feel a little bit stressed and feminine liberty restrained with the detailed guideline above?

"Thanks UW for setting women back 100 years!" a Twitter user wrote ironically. Another Facebook user wrote "Don't forget to be white! Like that wasn't implied. Disgusting UW decision on cheerleader qualifications."

A representative from Varsity - an umbrella organization of cheerleading, spirit and dance teams and competitions - told NBC that the detailed nature of the Husky's guidelines was unusual, NBC reports.

"We might say wear a clean outfit and make sure your hair is done," but apart from that, Varsity can not afford guidelines for how students should look in the tryout, the representative said, adding: "Our focus is on athleticism. We like to keep the focus on athleticism and cheerleading skills."

However, detailed tryout standards sometimes help fresh students who lack of idea of formal outlook. Maybe avoiding over-emphasize/describe some specific standards especially when concerned about woman beauty is a wiser choice for a well-known education organization.
