Siri may have dominated the voice-controlled personal digital assistants realm for years, but it is now facing a huge threat that could spell out its untimely demise. Meet Microsoft Cortana, the voice controlled personal digital assistant that is deemed better by a number of Microsoft users. Should Siri feel threatened? Should Cortana now say, "Move over Siri"?

Apple Siri has been an efficient voice controlled personal digital assistant. Apple users have been clamoring for its inclusion in the Mac, but Apple has postponed concretizing of any plans.

According to MacWorld, there are rumors that Apple will be including Siri in the succeeding Mac OS X. Is this move brought about by the growing strength of Cortana?

Siri Vs. Cortana - Microsoft Cortana's Edge

One thing that gave Cortana a better edge over Siri is that Cortana runs on Windows 10, something that Apple failed to foresee. It was not able to include Siri on Macs up until it saw that Cortana runs on PC. Not only that, users can also enjoy Cortana on the latest Lumia Windows phones.

Siri Vs. Cortana - No Problem With Accents

Initial problems regarding accent recognition used to make Siri a favorite subject of jokes. Thanks to technological advances on voice recognition, Siri can now identify accents, and correctly interpret the words being said, albeit not 100 percent perfect. Cortana also has the same capability since both are being sold internationally. In this regard, Siri and Cortana may be at par.

But take note of OK Google. Rumors have it that when it comes to understanding accents, OK Google is the best. Siri and Cortana may have to watch for this big guy as it is gaining ground.

Siri Vs. Cortana - Looking Up Web Info

While not totally new, both Siri and Cortana can retrieve Web information, said Time. However, there are certain things that are considered as "Siri-only."

According to Time, both Siri and Cortana can retrieve information you need online, only Siri has the capability to distinguish natural language. It seems that Apple made it a point for Siri to respond appropriately to statements such as, "Hey Siri - how's it hanging?"

What's Your Pick? Siri Or Cortana?

Obviously, Apple users would pick Siri, while pro-Microsoft will prefer Cortana. Based on experiences of users however, it seems that there are functionalities that only Siri can do, and Cortana als- has its own unique brand of functionalities.

Ending the war between Siri and Cortana may take years. Neither Apple nor Microsoft will come to admit its weakness in developing voice-controlled personal digital assistants.
