'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice' Vs 'Captain America: Civil War': Which Film Stands Out In Showing Superhero Rivalry Marvel Or DC?

In the recent superhero films "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Captain America: Civil War" the plot were different than usual. The superheroes were turned against each other. Batman against Superman and Captain America against Iron Man. Which between the two films stands out in showing superhero rivalry?

Well, earlier reports suggest that "Batman V Superman" did not receive a positive response from critics, which give "Captain America: Civil War" an advantage. It looks like "Civil War" is indeed better. Here are some of the comparisons per Independent that makes "Captain America: Civil war" better than "BVS."

Motivation For The Feud

In "BVS," Batman was up against Superman because of his fears that the Man of Steel would wipe out the Metropolis due to his immense super power. Meanwhile, Superman opted to fight Batman because his mom is in grave danger, which is not a compelling motivation for their feud.

On the other hand, in "Captain America: Civil War," the feud between Iron Man and the Star-Spangled superhero springs from their different stands about the government's order to governed them. Steve Rogers ignores it because he believes that his hands are the safest and Tony Stark supporting it because he no longer wants to carry the blame following the collateral damage after the "Age of Ultron."

We know that Iron Man used to think so highly of himself. He does not have a governing body when he created Ultron and we know that Cap struggles with authority. "Civil War" was able to present us these ideas which make us understand the characters more. However, we don't have these level understanding in "BVS."

Manipulative Villain

Both films showed the same plot, one person was behind the feud between the superheroes. In "BVS" Lex Luthor setup Batman and Superman in a gladiator match.

Meanwhile, Baron Zemo set up Iron Man and Captain America in physical action after playing a video showing the Winter Soldier killing Iron Man's parents. Stark lost his cool and Rogers continue to fight for his best friend Bucky Barnes explaining that although it was him, he was brainwashed by the Hydra and was not aware of what he did.

Per the report, while both villains are manipulative. Zemo's motivation was more reasonable and relatable. He wanted the Avengers to kill each others because he can't do it himself and he wanted to avenge the death of his family in the "Age of Ultron."

Box Office Sales

According to Showbiz 411, "Civil War" did not beat "BVS" in the box office for its opening day. The former only took $75 million, while the latter made $81 million. However, Batman News reported that overall "Captain America: Civil War" has already beat "BVS" for its first opening weekend with its $181.8 million compared to Zack Snyder's $166.1.

"Captain America: Civil War" was expected to open $200 million last weekend but it fell short. Per the report, the two films are supposed to open in the same week but "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was moved earlier after learning the potential competition with Iron Man and Captain America.
