L'Wren Scott dead at 47: Mick Jagger's girlfriend found hanging from doorknob

L'Wren Scott, 47, was found dead hanging from her doorknob Monday morning in an apparent suicide.

The fashion designer was discovered by her assistant around 10 a.m. after she had received a text for her to come over, police sources say. The assistant let herself into the Chelsea apartment with her own key, and seeing the former model hanging from a scarf, immediately dialed 911, sources say.

Scott, who had been dating Mick Jagger since 2001, was already dead by the time police and paramedics arrived on the scene, they said. She did not leave a note.

Her longtime Rolling Stones lover said in a publicly released statement he is "completely shocked and devastated by the news." Jagger and the Stones were on tour in Australia when Scott hanged herself.

Police suspect suicide and Scott's body was taken by the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Members of the fashion world offered their thoughts on the tragic news. Simon Doonan, who was the artistic director at Barney's for many years, said, "She was a very unique, sparkling, glamorous, highly intelligent and extremely funny," he told the New York Daily News. "She was a unique girl."

Scott, born Luann Bambrough, towered at 6-feet-3-inches and was discovered by fashion photographer Bruce Weber at a Calvin Klein shoot. She went on to pose for big name brands like Thierry Mugler and Chanel before moving to California in the early 1990s and re-establishing herself as a top stylist.

The stunning brunette launched her fashion brand in 2006. Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah Winfrey, Jolie and Kidman have all worn her gowns to the Academy Awards. She also designed the costumes for "Ocean's Thirteen," "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Shine a Light," Martin Scorsese's documentary about The Rolling Stones.

Last month Scott announced she had canceled her London Fashion Week show for unknown reasons.

"I've never heard of any problems or any history of depression. It's shocking," Ali Kachouri said.

Interestingly, around the time of her death, Scott's official Facebook page and Twitter account featured new posts.

"today #love #timwalkerphotography #lwrenloves facebook.com/officiallwren's..." she tweeted.
