SpaceX's Elon Musk Hired 'Batman v Superman' Costume Designer To Create Cool And Functional Spacesuits

Elon Musk is certainly going out of his way to make sure his astronauts look good while they are out in space. The SpaceX CEO has recently hired "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" costume designer Jose Fernandez to create exciting new spacesuits that will prove to be functional and fashionable.

Who Is Jose Fernandez?

You may not have heard of him, but moviegoers are certainly familiar with Jose Fernandez's designs (via Gizmodo). Fernandez and Ironhead Studio are responsible for the costumes featured in "Batman v Superman," "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," "Thor," "Planet of the Apes," "Jupiter Ascending" and even "Iron Man."

Although it is highly unlikely that SpaceX astronauts will resemble Bruce Wayne in his Power Armor or a video game hero in "Tron: Legacy," Elon Musk was impressed with what Jose Fernandez came up with. The "Batman v Superman" costume designer recently confirmed with Bleep he was originally commissioned to work on the spacesuits in a mere two weeks.

However, he was granted a longer period to work on the design, which the SpaceX CEO loved. "I worked with him for six months and at the end of that, we created a suit that they are now reverse-engineering to make functional for flight," Fernandez revealed.

Although this sounds like SpaceX is still working on the new spacesuits, there is a huge possibility that the new design will be unveiled soon. Elon Musk has previously stated during his Reddit AMA that he wants the SpaceX astronauts to have spacesuits that can work for them but also make them look good.

"We are putting a lot of effort into design esthetics, not just utility," Musk has said. "It needs to both look like a 21st century spacesuit and work well."

There is no word yet on when the new SpaceX spacesuits will be unveiled. However, it wouldn't be surprising if the new suits will make astronauts look like they have just stepped out of a movie screen.
