Breaking Bad Eating Habits

Some people spend much time exercising or sacrificing their diet but have bad eating habits that are defeating the purpose of a gym membership or having a diet diagram.

Unconsciously, some people fall into bad habits because of lifestyle, like being too busy preparing meals that they would resort to fast food or quick instant food that has low nutritional value. Some might be too busy and skip breakfast, or too overloaded with work that only gives them time to eat a meal late at night.

Below are some bad habits most people unconsciously fall into and some ways to break the bad eating habits.

Junk Food

From the name itself, junk food not only disrupts the waistline but can have more serious consequences to the body. NDTV Food shares five harmful effects of junk food including risks of dementia and depression.

Break it by skipping the junk food aisle in the grocery store and go straight to ingredients for a healthy recipe. Do not stock unhealthy food in the house. Make time to prepare fit meals and avoid calling for fast food deliveries.

Midnight Meals

The Atlantic's research cites that, "Every organ has a clock." The meals people take serve a purpose to help individuals function effectively within a day.

Break it by thinking of your kitchen as a self-serve restaurant that closes at night. After dinner, brush your teeth because you would crave lesser for food with a minty mouth from toothpaste. If you feel genuinely hungry, go for something light like a cracker or a small fruit.

Skipping Breakfast

Having a timely and balanced meal is the most important for a person's life. Shake Up Your Wake Up writes, "Breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast." Skipping breakfast will only lead to compensating by eating more for the rest of the day, and functioning less.

Break it by consuming healthy breakfast like banana bread or scrambled eggs with beans. If you need to beat the morning rush, you can have whole fruit on the go or handy home-made cereal bars. There are a lot of healthy breakfast ideas that would not excuse you from skipping the morning meal. Starting the day right will be the start of a healthy eating habit.
