News just in that James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff decided to file for a divorce after nine years of marriage. The couple, who met on the set of TV comedy "Shameless," released a statement that their decision to separate has caused them "tremendous sadness."

According to E! News, James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff had a private, low-key ceremony on October 18, 2006. After four years, the "X-Men: Apocalypse" star and wife welcomed a son, Brendan in 2010.

McAvory and Duff remained low-key throughout their married life. They have kept their relationship mostly out of the public eye. "We don't talk about each other much and we don't turn up together at lots of events. We both really rejoice in having a normal life," McAvoy said in a private interview with Washington Post.

More so, McAvoy previously shared to radio host Ryan Seacrest that his wife made him complete, making him a feel like himself a little bit more, Daily Mail UK added. However, Duff shared more details about their relationship during her interview with host Lorraine Kelly last year.

When Kelly mentioned that they're one of the laid back couples in the industry, Duff just laughed off and replied, "'It's dead easy to get on with your life." She continued,"We're very lucky we are aware of our blessings. That helps to remind us to be good people."

The Divorce

In a joint statement, James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff said that they will continue to take care of their son despite deciding to separate, Independent UK reported. "We enter this next phase with continued friendship, love and respect for one another and the shared focus of caring for our son," the statement said. "We ask that you respect our and, most importantly, our child's privacy during this time."

The divorce comes in the midst of "X-Men: Apocalypse" promotional tour. The movie is set to open in theaters on May 27. Viewers were quick to point out the chemistry between Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy during their guest appearance on "The Graham Norton Show" earlier this week per Daily Mail.
