The World's Oldest Person Born In The 1800s

USA Today reports that Emma Morano, a 116-year-old woman from the town of Verbania in Piedmont, Italy, recently earned the title of the world' oldest person alive in the 1800s. The Italian woman, who was born on Nov. 29, 1899, succeeded the record of Susannah Mushatt Jones who died in New York on Thursday.

Rosi Santoni, a 72-year-old relative who helps care for the Italian woman, told The Telegraph that Morano was glad after learning that she is now the world's oldest person alive in the 1800s. "She said 'My word, I'm as old as the hills,' but she was very pleased," Santoni disclosed.

Morano, who used to be employed at a jute factory before working in a boarding school's kitchen, was the eldest of eight children. She was married to Giovanni Martinuzzi in 1926 but they separated in 1938. Her only child died at a very young age in 1937.

The Secret To Long Life Of The World's Oldest Person

Speaking in behalf of Morano who is now almost entirely deaf, Santoni revealed that the secret to long life of the world's oldest person incudes eating one boiled and two raw eggs every day. The carer said that the Italian woman has been following the same diet for almost 100 years since she was diagnosed with anemia.

Aside from eating three eggs, Morano also eats a small amount of raw minced meat on a daily basis. For supper, Santoni said that world's oldest person would only take milk.

"Considering her age she is in pretty good health. She does find walking very tiring, though, and she has a nap during the day," Santoni disclosed.

Aside from her repetitive diet, Morano also attributed her long life to the fact that she stayed single for most of her life. She left her violent husband in 1938 after her 7-month old baby died. She had never engaged in a relationship since then.
