Tech News & Updates: Acer To Develop High-End VR Headset For Theme Parks

Hardware and electronics company Acer will work with a game studio to come up with a virtual reality headset for theme parks and arcades. The collaboration aims to create a high-end VR headset for the public.

The Verge said Acer will join forces with Starbreeze, a company which has already introduced a headset called StarVR. Both companies are now trying to make something better than this headset. The publication noted that StarVR has been known for the wide field of vision it provides users. The Verge said this feature enables a user to see something which is very close to reality.

Hardware Development

Now that Acer is coming into the picture, it is expected that Starbreeze will receive help especially on hardware development which is the latter's forte. Acer can provide efficient hardware in a short period of time since it also has desktops and laptops that support the StarVR.

According to Road To VR, Starbreeze and Acer will both work on the "design, manufacturing, promotion, marketing and sales of the StarVR HMD." The same report highlighted that the StarVR headset will be marketed as an "enterprise-focused" device and not something that competes with other VR headsets like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

More VR Possibilities

"Acer is thrilled to join forces with Starbreeze in bringing the StarVR head-mounted display to the market," said Acer CEO and Corporate President Jason Chen, per Road To VR. "[We] share the same goal of delivering best-in-class VR applications, and we look forward to unlocking new VR possibilities together with this partnership."

Road To VR also noted that the device could cost more than $1,000 when it comes out of the market. It will also feature two 5.5-inch displays and a 5120×1440 resolution with up 210 degrees horizontal field of view.
