Most parents would want to spend time with their kids during summer, but some would opt to send them to sleep away camps. One parent shared the benefits of sleep away camp among children for them to excel in life.

One parent told Washington Post that she sends her kids away to sleep away camps every summer. Some parents were quick to judge her parenting style, having her kids away from her was never easy. As much as she wanted her children to stay with her over summer, she needs to send them away for the better.

Laura Clydesdale shared her story on why she sends her kids away every summer. It not just getting a time off from parenting, but it is also a way of training her children to face life on their own. Clydesdale talked about the benefits of send away camp and the way it helps her children to be successful in life.

"We are consciously opting out of the things-to-put-on-the-college-application arms race, and instead betting on three huge benefits of summer camp, which we believe will give them a true competitive advantage - in life," Clydesdale wrote on her blog.

Sleep away camps teachers children to be more independent and enhance their creativity. Sending them to summer camps lets them explore the beauty of nature, and the activities enhance their creativity. Sleep away camps also helps them develop their interpersonal skills as most activities encourage the children to work in groups. It sharpens their leadership skills and self-esteem.

Several studies have proved that sending children into outdoor programs helps them grown as an individual. Lauren pointed out that there are things that children can't learn at home and needs to explore the outside world to learn independence as per New York Times.
