Teacher Sends Personalized Notes To Her Students After Learning One of Her Student’s Attempted Suicide

Brittney Darras, 25, an English teacher in Colorado School wrote a total of 130 notes in a span of two months. These notes were for her students in the school. All for the reason that one of her students attempted suicide.

According to the report in Washington Post, Darras never thought one of her students is struggling. The way she found out about it is when her student's mother came to a school meeting with a list of her daughter's teachers. Each name had a yes and no next to it. This would indicate to which teacher she wanted her mother to talk to in order to find out why she hadn't been in class for weeks now.

The revelation was a shock to Darras. To her the student's mother told the story: it was an attempted suicide after she deleted her social media account. The police came to her rescue and now she is in the hospital trying to recover.

Both ladies didn't expect something like this would happen. Her student is always happy, she had friends, she's on top of her class and she does her assignments very well. They didn't know she was struggling. This is when Darras realized that something has to be done.

So, she sent out a letter to her student in the hospital, telling her how much she is loved and missed. That she cared about her.

Later on Darras went to write notes to all of her students. All of those notes were hand written. She wrote all those letters during the times where she would not be teaching. In the airport, on a weekend trip, sitting o her porch she would write.

During the final exams, she gave each student a letter that is personalized just for them. It made all her students feel that they are loved and appreciated. As they walk their way out of the classroom door, each of them would stop and give her a hug. It was powerful.

Darras expressed how each of us needs to realize that every human being is unique. Let us all be aware about depression and suicide, and help save other's lives.
