Why Donald Trump’s Backwards Views On Parenting May Lose His Presidential Bid

How could trump know what working families mean when he does not even do diapers.

In 2005, before Donald Trump and his wife Melania announced that they were expecting a child (Melanie's first child, but Trump's fifth) Trump appeared on "The Howard Stern Show", expressing his rather odd views on child rearing as cited on Buzz Feed News. Something you won't expect from any parent. "I like kids. I mean, I won't do anything to take care of them," he said.

In the same TV show, Trump mused and said that his wife Melania would really make a good mother because she could easily take great care of the child without him having to do very much.

According to Melanie, Trump did not actually change diapers, but she was fine with that. "It's very important to know the person you're with. And we know our roles. I didn't want him to change the diapers or put Barron to bed," she said.

In 2005, on "The Opie and Anthony Show" Trump confirmed that doing diapers isn't just his stuff. "It's not my thing... There are a lot of women out there who demand that the husband act like the wife, and there are a lot of husbands that listen to that, and so, they go for it," he said.

Men who change diapers, according to Trump, are just being compelled to do it by their demanding wives as cited on Huffington Post. For Trump, men are basically acting like women when doing diapers. "So much for equality in child rearing!" he said.

In 2007, his unbending, sexist view of gender roles in parenting became explicit after Howard Stern asked Trump what it was really like having a brand new child in his home. Trump didn't mince words. "Melania takes care of the baby and I pay all of the costs," he said.

For the majority of American families today, Trump's views of being a parent are utterly far removed from reality. Although this doesn't mean that he doesn't love and cherish his kids, but in Trump's own words, he is definitely not an equal parenting partner.
