‘Saw 8: Legacy’ Release Date, Latest News & Updates: Lionsgate Ditching James Wan As Director? October 2017 Release Date, New Directors REVEALED!

Following the reports that "Saw 8: Legacy" production will commence this September, Lionsgate Television Group has reportedly announced a release date for the highly anticipated sequel. In addition, latest "Saw 8: Legacy" updates also named two new directors who will helm the film.

Hailed as Guinness Book of World Records' "Most Successful Horror Franchise," the "Saw" film franchise has been a box office hit globally grossing more than $800 million. Created by "The Conjuring" director James Wan and "Insidious" creator Leigh Whannell, "Saw" is a psychological horror film that depicted the ruthless deeds of a serial killer named, Jigsaw.

'Saw 8: Legacy' New Directors

Franchise co-creator and original director James Wan will not be directing the eighth installment of the "Saw" franchise with a tentative title, "Saw 8: Legacy." Instead, the sequel will be helmed by "Undead," "Daybreakers" and "Predestination" directors Michael and Peter Spierig, Bloody Disgusting reveals.

Spierig brothers' names came as "Saw 8: Legacy" directors after the Ontario Media Development Corporation posted a list of productions that are currently filming in Ontario, Canada. Even though Wan won't be helming the sequel, he and fellow "Saw" franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell will be the film's executive producers.

It has been previously reported that Lionsgate is aiming for an October 2017 release for "Saw 8: Legacy." Now, the company has officially confirmed the speculations that the sequel will be released on Oct. 27, 2017 as a pre-Halloween offering, MovieWeb notes.

Speaking of "Saw 8: Legacy," the sequel will reportedly begin filming this fall, with a screenplay from "Sorority Row" writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, IGN reports. Based on the production listing on a Vancouver film industry website, IATSE873 (via Bloody Disgusting), the filming will commence on Sept. 12 until Oct. 21 in Toronto.

'Saw 8: Legacy' Cast

As for "Saw 8: Legacy" cast, Lionsgate has yet to announce the actors attached to the psychological thriller film sequel. But more information about "Saw 8: Legacy" may be revealed in the upcoming 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, which will be held at the San Diego Convention Center on Jul. 21-24, Parent Herald previously reported.
