Toddler Tips: Should Parents Be Worried About their Toddler's Bad Habbits at an Early Age?

Toddlers are prone to picking up bad habits as they can easily get attached to whatever bring them pleasure. Though parents would usually get concerned, there is no need to fret as they can just outgrow them.

Toddlers and big kids are usually pick up bad habits such as nail biting, thumb sucking, and even temper tantrums. Some children, however, tend to go to the extremes such as banging their heads on the wall when they're upset out would tend to throw severe tantrums and even tend to hurt themselves.

These habits can be outgrown, thus parents do not need to make a big deal out of it. They may dwell with the bad habit for a while, but they would eventually divert their frustration or pleasure into a different habit.

Parents may just let these bad habits pass, but there are times that parents would need to be alarmed. Listed below are some of the common bad habits and a few insights as to when they should stop.

Head banging is common among toddlers especially when they are expressing their frustration. It is the toddlers was of getting what they want, or a way to vent out their anger. Though it is nothing to be worried about, head banging should stop by the time the child would reach 4 years old. If the child's headbanging habit would continue and would be accompanied by motor and speech delays, it is best to contact your pediatrician.

Nail biting usually takes place when the child would reach around two or three years old. Though they would eventually outgrow it, it is something that should be dealt with as soon as possible. Nail biting may be caused by your child anxieties according to Baby Center, thus it should be addressed early on as the child may the stress through adulthood.
