Nathan Fillion On 'Castle' Season 9 Renewal News & Update: 'Con Man' Star Dishes On What Would've Been If Show Went On

Nathan Fillion is missing working on the set of "Castle." Cancelled last May on ABC, the actor said that he would normally be back at work for the series around this time of the year -- the last week of July. But for the first time in eight years since the show started, he has no more plans for the rest of the month.

Nathan Fillion Confirms 'Castle' Season 9 Would've Involved A Time Jump

The actor spoke with TV Line to share his thoughts on the demise of his long-running series on ABC. He said that, had it continued to air, there were indeed plans for a time jump to "Castle" Season 9. The buzz on about the change in timeline was so loud when the show's fate was still in contention a few months back.

However, Nathan Fillion confirmed that all talks in production ceased when ABC confirmed it will no longer be moving forward with the series. "When we didn't get the pick-up, I think [producers] stopped making plans," said Fillion in the interview.

As early as April, when "Castle" Season 8 was still running on the air, there were already talks that the show could continue for Season 9. But female lead star, Stana Katic, who played police captain Kate Beckett, Castle's wife, had a contract to renegotiate with the network and she was reportedly no longer interested to renew this.

Rumors about a conflict between Fillion and Katic on the set fueled more speculations that the show will no longer continue, but this has never been proven. In May, ABC finally confirmed the show has ended.

Nathan Fillion's Favorite 'Castle' Memory

Nathan Fillion was pretty candid about his interview and when asked about his favorite memory on "Castle," the actor couldn't immediately come up with one. He had help from his long-time friend and "Con Man" co-star Alan Tudyk when he alluded to a "Castle" episode that page homage to "Rear Window" as a favorite.

According to TV.Com, this was the show's 100th episode, which aired in 2013. Nathan Fillion fondly remembered that they had to re-film a scene due to his fault for not paying attention to detail. Watch the full interview below and relive "Castle" with Nathan Fillion.
