‘Wayward Pines’ Season 3 Cancelled: EP Weighs In On Season 2 Finale And Possible Renewal On Fox

"Wayward Pines" Season 2 finale gave fans another story with a proper closure. While the season 2 finale capped off in such a way that the story can be complete on its own, there are a couple of hints on what could possibly happen if the show gets renewed for Season 3. Will Fox renew or cancel the series?

"Wayward Pines" Season 2 finale showed the human population back into the cryogenic pods after a very intense battle against each other and against the Abbies, notes TVLine. In the end, Kerry decided to sacrifice herself in order to let Theo survive and continue on with his life by getting inside the pods.

What was most interesting about the "Wayward Pines" Season 2 finale, however, was the appearance of a newborn Abby that resembled humans more than their own kind. This raised speculations that the Abbies were returning to their former DNA and their kind is slowly being restored to its former state.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, author and executive producer Blake Crouch explained that the season 2 finale may also serve as a continuation of the story for "Wayward Pines" Season 3. The same as what they did with season 1, Crouch stated that they wanted to do a story that could stand on its own, but still pave the way for more stories should they be lucky enough to be renewed for Season 3.

As most fans can recall, "Wayward Pines" was unlikely going to be renewed after Season 1 until Fox announced that it was doing a Season 2. Now, fans are already wondering whether the series would be back for Season 3 and whether the upcoming season will see what happened to the Abbies after the birth of the baby Abby in the finale.
