'Overwatch' Update & Latest News: Lúcioball & Olympic Games Loot Box Goodies Unveiled, But It's Upsetting Players

"Overwatch" has introduced a summer special to celebrate the 2016 Olympic games in Brazil. Players can acquire special Olympic-themed skins from Loot Boxes that are already in effect until Aug. 22. They can also play the new side game Lúcioball, which is patterned after soccer or fútbol. However, the latest offers come with some catch and it is upsetting players.

According to Tech Radar, while the goodies from the Loot Boxes are rare and great, it doesn't come for free. During a regular play, gamers can either fork out $9.99 or more for a box, or earn its content by painstakingly playing the game to level up. Contents in the Loot Boxes are also undetermined, so everything is a gamble for players. If they level up or pay for a box, they might still end up with something they don't actually want.

Eurogamer also notes that the Loot Boxes have polarized "Overwatch" players. Although the Olympic-themed skins being offered are actually "pretty cool," they cannot be bought with in-game credits. Blizzard reasons that this is because the loots are special and limited editions.

Worse, the summer loots are in effect for three weeks, which means the regular loots are currently unavailable. Over at Reddit, players are calling out Blizzard for their greed and restriction. Many are clearly upset about the temporary offers. Below is Blizzard's full explanation on the rare Loot Boxes.

Meanwhile, the Lúcioball is receiving better reception from "Overwatch" gamers. According to PlayStation, it's actually the first ever seasonal event in the game. It has been determined as a Weekly Brawl, which means "Overwatch" could introduce more Olympic-themed side events in the future.

Players describe Lúcioball as a lot similar to "Rocket League" and with some inspirations from soccer. A team of three can play against another team at a stadium similar to the Rio De Janeiro Olympics. The goal is to score with the balls during a specified time limit, using abilities like speed and precision. Watch a demonstration of the Lúcioball below.
