iPhone 7 Specs: New Apple Leak Confirms Deep Blue Color; Bigger RAM & DSLR Camera Quality In Store?

The latest Apple leak has confirmed a new color variant for the tech giant's upcoming smartphone, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. A detailed hands-on video featured the iPhone 7 Plus prototype (rumored to have the name 'iPhone 7 Pro') in a deep blue color.

The iPhone 7 Plus' final chassis was showcased in a YouTube clip from Unbox Therapy, which is hosted by Lewis Hilsenteger and is one of the platform's most popular channels with more than five million subscribers. Watch the video below.

The hands-on video also demonstrated how slightly slimmer (7.14mm) the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus is compared to the current iPhone 6S Plus (7.18mm) out in the market. The iPhone 7 Plus' chassis came from wireless headphone developer Besound, Forbes reported.

The iPhone 7's slimmer design was probably done to accommodate the long-rumored absence of Apple's traditional 3.5mm headphone jack. Recent reports claimed that Apple would include a free Lightning-to-3.5mm dongle in each iPhone 7 box.

MacRumors posted the alleged dongle from a Foxconn factory in Vietnam. Though it hasn't been confirmed by Apple yet, the dongle's short design certainly follows the company's current adapter style.

The video shared by MacRumors noted that the alleged dongle doesn't work with an iPad running iOS 9, displaying an incompatibility error message. The dongle, however, works fine when connected to an iOS 10 device.

The iPhone 7 is reportedly better in specs and features than its predecessor. Digitimes reported that Apple's upcoming smartphone will be equipped with 3GB of RAM, a definite improvement from the iPhone 6S' 2GB of RAM. It's possible, however, that the added RAM will only grace the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 variant.

Apple equipped the iPhone 7 Plus with a bigger RAM so it can accommodate the technical requirements of the device's new advanced dual camera system, BGR reported. The new camera technology is rumored to be the product of Apple's 2014 acquisition of LinX, which is known for giving slim handsets' cameras a DSLR quality.

LinX's radical camera technology is touted to have incredible performance. It includes improved picture quality even in low light, better color fidelity, and lowered noise levels, among others.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 7 will start on September 9 with a September 16 release date, according to @evleaks. Pricing will likely stay the same as its predecessors. As reported by BGR, they are listed below.

  • iPhone 7 32GB: $649
