NBA Rumors: San Antonio Spurs' Manu Ginobili Retiring After Next NBA Season?

Mani Ginobili is enjoying a successful career in NBA. There is no doubt that the shooting guard is skilled and talented in his craft. However, the recent NBA rumors suggest that Ginobili might hang his jersey for good soon.

San Antonio Spurs had its own glorious days with its big three, which includes Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. The team already lost Duncan to retirement and rumors are ripe that Ginobili will follow soon.

Sports Rageous reported that Manu Ginobili might retire in the next NBA season. The Argentine player announced that he will no longer be playing for Argentina and that the Rio Olympics will be his last. But aside from this, Ginobili has not signed a contract extension with San Antonio Spurs.

Manu Ginobili is set to play his 15th year with the Spurs in the upcoming NBA season but this might be his last. Reports have it that the Spurs point guard is contemplating hard to re-sign with the team.

Manu Ginobili's retirement is attributed to his age. The player is already 39 years old. Aside from his age, every NBA fan knows that he has survived several injuries in his 14 seasons in the NBA league.

As SB Nation puts it, Manu Ginobili was supposed to end his NBA career when he was 30 years old. His being careless on the basketball court made many people, including the Spurs, believe that his body wouldn't survive for long.

Manu Ginobili had two major operations in his ankles in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he suffered a broken nose, a fractured right forearm in 2011 and a fractured hand in 2012. In 2013, he suffered a strained left hamstring and another fracture, this time on his right leg in 2014. The said injury caused him to miss the FIBA World Cup.

Manu Ginobili is a two-time NBA All-Star, has received the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2008, and is a two-time Gold Olimpia Award recipient. With Tim Duncan gone, Lakers is currently considering to build its second batch of big three.

According to Parent Herald, Spurs next big three will include Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. However, they are still considering Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin or Thomas Robinson to complete it.
