'Making A Murderer' Season 2 News: Teresa Halbach Family Could Appeal Brendan Dassey Overturn, Steven Avery Lawyers Have New Suspect

Following news that the federal court has decided to overturn Brendan Dassey's conviction, the family of murdered victim Teresa Halbach might be considering an appeal. The subjects of Netflix's docuseries "Making a Murderer" have less than 90 days to contest the new ruling. The lawyers for Dassey's co-accused, his uncle Steven Avery, will also be presenting new evidence that they say will point to the real suspect via Avery's own appeal.

In a press conference, Attorney General Brad Schimel said that they will be seeking inputs from the family of Teresa Halbach before they appeal the court's decision on Brendan Dassey. The state is carefully examining what course to take with his exoneration, per WTMJ-TV Milwaukee. The directors of "Making a Murderer" Season 2 immediately released a statement following the court's decision, per E! Online.

As detailed in the "Making a Murderer" docuseries, Brendan Dassey was convicted of supposedly helping his uncle in the rape and murder of Halbach. Dassey was just 16-years-old at that time it happened in 2005 and he has been in prison for the last 10 years. The court has decided that authorities mishandled their investigation of Dassey, as shown in "Making a Murderer," which is why his conviction has been overturned just this August.

Meanwhile, the lawyers of "Making a Murderer's" main suspect said they will present new evidence in Teresa Halbach's rape and murder in Steven Avery's upcoming appeal. They are confident that this should finally identify the real suspect. "There is evidence that already exists in the case that points to a different location and a different suspect," lawyer Kathleen Zellner said, via New York Times. She said that her team was able to gather forensic evidence and a found a potential credible witness as well.

Steven Avery continues to maintain his innocence of the crimes against Halbach despite the court declaring he was responsible. "Making a Murderer" Season 2 will supposedly focus on his appeal and Dassey's exoneration. Netflix has yet to announce when the new season of "Making a Murderer" will be released.
