‘Pokémon GO’ Buddy System Guide: Train & Attack Gyms With Your Buddy, It’s Restrictions

The latest version of "Pokémon GO" introduces the new Buddy feature, which is currently being released in devices. The Buddy system allows players to pick a Pokémon from their collection and use it as their Buddy that will accompany them on their journeys all the time.

Walking with your Pokémon for every kilometer (1 KM, 3 KM, or 5 KM) will give you a piece of that creature's Candy. However, there are specific actions that cannot be done once you use a Pokémon as Buddy. Using a Pokémon as your Buddy in "Pokémon GO" means you can't station it at a Gym to be its defender, transfer it to Professor Willow for Candy, and any other actions that will separate the pocket monster from you, according to Heavy.

To activate the "Pokémon GO" Buddy system, tap on your trainer profile on your screen's lower left-hand corner, Forbes wrote. Tap the three tiny bars on the lower right and select "buddy." It will then display a list of your available Pokémon.

Despite its restrictions, Buddy Pokémon can still be trained at a friendly Gym and it would still function even if the creature has fainted due to a drained or zero HP. The distance a "Pokémon GO" player has traveled will still be counted even though his/her Buddy has fainted, as long as the Pokémon remains as Buddy.

You should know, however, that training a Buddy Pokémon at a Gym will not give you extra incentives or Candies. Aside from these, Buddy Pokémon can also attack an enemy Gym, so it's important that you use a Buddy Pokémon that's powerful.

The latest version of "Pokémon GO" doesn't support jailbroken devices. Users who jailbroke their devices will have a screen that displays the message, "This device, OS, or software is not compatible with Pokémon Go" and a link to learn more info, 9to5 Mac reported. It's advisable for "Pokémon GO" users with jailbroken devices to stay away from the update in the meantime.

A wearable "Pokémon GO" add-on worth $34.99 will be released on Sept. 16. "Pokémon GO" Plus, which can be clipped or worn like a wrist watch, will alert you when you're near a PokéStop and collect rewards from PokéStops without you taking out your device.
