'Pokemon GO' Slips From Its No.1 Position; Dethroned In The App Store

"Pokemon GO" enjoyed its 74-day long reign. Until now it was the highest grossing app in Apple's iOS store. The first position is taken over by the old favorite, "Clash Royale." The game recently introduced new micro transactions. "Pokemon GO's " dip in sales is partly due to its fading popularity.

It is reported that the "Pokemon GO" game is monetized very poorly and hence has slipped from its position as the highest grossing app. It is true that the game's store has lots of items on sale. However, as a player progresses in the game, the items become less and less useful. There are many popular games which monetize their popularity by making items in the game's store must haves. "Pokemon GO" failed to do that even at higher levels.

The following are the items that are available in the game's store:

Pokéballs - The Pokeballs in "Pokemon GO" are not a compelling purchase. It is intended for players who live in a rural area where the Pokestops are less. If a player is living in a place where there are few Pokestops at least, they will never shell out money for Pokeballs, reported Forbes.

Incense - Incense seemed an attractive buy during the early days of "Pokemon GO." However, as time passed by, players realized that it isn't that valuable and is not very helpful as it is not very cost-effective. Rare Pokemons are a difficult catch even with Incense and even if one comes by, it will be less valuable ones like Pigeotto or Metapod, or a singular Ghastly or Horsea, reported AOL.

Lucky Eggs - Lucky eggs are one item which is little valuable. However, if a player buys few of these, it will go a long way for them in "Pokemon GO." As soon as a player understands the game well, they will know that the best thing to do is to save up all the evolutions and then use a Lucky Egg. This will give you 20K to 50K experience in half an hour and you can evolve all the eggs in your roster. Hence in "Pokemon GO" a player does not need more than a few lucky eggs per month.

Lures - Lures are a bit more lucrative to buy than Incense. However, the players can simply leech off of other lures for free instead of buying them themselves. This means that it is not a money generating item for the game.

Incubators - This is a must buy for all serious "Pokemon GO" players. A player can hatch up to nine eggs using an incubator. This is the biggest shortcut that the game offers.

Bag/Storage Upgrades - If a player is vigilant and never lets any item to accumulate, then they literally do not need a bag storage in "Pokemon GO."

The fact that "Pokemon GO" has slipped down the highest grossing charts might be because Niantic is not able to monetize the fanfare of the game. It might not be because the player base has shrunk to a worrying degree.
