'Criminal Minds' Season 12: Hotchner Dies? Execs Plan Plot For Thomas Gibson's Exit

What can fans expect in "Criminal Minds" season 12? The previous run has sent audiences into a worrying spree after fan-favorite and long-time cast member Shemar Moore left the show. Now that the upcoming season is coming soon, reports have also confirmed that another major character played by Thomas Gibson has been axed from the show.

While Shemar's exit was his choice, Thomas' untimely departure was due to an altercation he had with one of the show's producers. As previous reports confirmed, the actor was fired and will not be returning to "Criminal Minds" season 12 because of his anger issues.

TV Line previously reported that writers are now thinking of a way to ease out Hotchner in "Criminal Minds" season 12. This was not the first time the show suffered some major cast shake-ups, but it would prove to be difficult for them after they have lost two important characters in just one season.

Good thing, "Criminal Minds" season 12 will usher in the addition of a new character played by "Magic Mike" star Adam Rodriguez. Apart from Adam, it has been hinted that execs are looking for two more cast members that will somehow fill the gap that Shemar and Thomas left.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Adam shared that he is excited to be part of "Criminal Minds" season 12. However, he did share that it won't be smooth sailing for his character Luke Alvez.

"You're not getting somebody that's coming in as an expert just jumping into the mix," he said. "You're going to watch Luke work his butt off to try and catch up to these people that are already so great at what they do."

"Criminal Minds" season 12 premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on CBS.
