Assassin’s Creed,’ ‘Far Cry’ 2017 Release Dates Not Ensured, Alpha ‘One Year Before Release For More Quality, More Polish’

It seems like fans of Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed" and "Far Cry" franchises could be set to just keep hoping even up to next year, as the video game development and publisher company is reportedly not committed to releasing another entry in either franchise in 2017.

Since 2009, the "Assassin's Creed" franchise has been an annually released title, which some believed has been one of the major causes of the perceived decline of the series with each installment. Contrast that to the "Far Cry" series, which has had a more standard two-year break between releases, although this year's "Far Cry Primal" is apparently not part of the main series.

The "Assassin's Creed" fanbase might have thought that the break would only be a year and that the next game would come next year in 2017, but that is apparently not the case. It seems that Ubisoft has taken the disgruntled notion of the fans and will be taking more time in developing the next "Assassin's Creed" game, along with the next "Far Cry" game than initially thought.

Tommy Francois, the Vice President of Editorial at Ubisoft, recently spoke in an interview with IGN, as shared by Gamespot. During the talk, Francois revealed that 2017 will not necessarily see a release for either a new "Assassin's Creed" game or a new "Far Cry" title just so developers will have more time to develop them.

Francois said that Ubisoft has taken a stance for the development of new entries in the "Assassin's Creed" and "Far Cry" franchises, saying that the Alpha versions of the game should be finished at least "one year before release." "This is the goal we're going for: Alpha one year before, more quality, more polish," Francois explained.

Basically, the development of new games for either "Assassin's Creed" or "Far Cry" are in the works, but the developers are planning to devote more time to polishing and refining them. The developers need to get out the Alpha first, then fine tune the version until they are satisfied before releasing even if it means "biting the [bullet] and not having an 'Assassin's' game or a 'Fary Cry' [in 2017]."
