‘Gotham’ Season 3 Episode 3 Recap: Mayor Penguin To Make Gotham Great Again, Enter The Mad Hatter

"Gotham" season 3 episode 3 finally aired and this season can finally begin its myth arc; Jervis Tetch the Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel) is now in Gotham city looking for his sister, asking Jim Godron (Ben McKenzie) for help, while Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) has officially begun his campaign to become Mayor Penguin for a tighter grip on the city.

"Gotham" season 3 episode 3 "Look Into My Eyes" featured its main story arc as Jim being contracted by the Mad Hatter to help find his sister Alice, one of the escapees of Victor Strange's Indian Hill experiments that made her blood highly poisonous. The larger of the other subplots in "Gotham" season 3 episode 3 had would-be Mayor Penguin cementing the platform upon which he'll run his campaign.

The Mad Hatter in "Gotham" season 3 episode 3 was shown to be a prolific hypnotist capable of controlling the minds of anyone to the point that they can not only perform superhuman feats but also murder and suicide. For Cobblepot, he is already so sure of his ascent into the position of Mayor Penguin that he already pulled some strings to expand his inner circle.

Ever the cunning and prepared psycho, Mayor Penguin managed to one-up Aubrey James' (Richard Kind) attempt in intimidating him from the mayoral race by basically bringing in more people with more guns during a meeting. Meanwhile, all his supreme powers of mind control was apparently not enough for the Mad Hatter to find Alice himself and so he had to resort to hiring the new freelance Gordon in "Gotham" season 3 episode 3.

Upon finding Alice, who was one of the escapees of Victor Strange's Indian Hill experiments that was resolved in the episode before "Gotham" season 3 episode 3, discovered her apparent problems with people coming into contact with her blood and confronted the Mad Hatter. On his end, Cobblepot's used the apparent inevitability of his becoming Mayor Penguin of Gotham City to force the new warden of Arkham Asylum to release Edward Nygma, who is apparently Penguin's only other best bud aside from Butch (Drew Powell).

At the end of "Gotham" season 3 episode 3 "Look Into My Eyes," Alice is in Gordon's custody with the possibility of bringing her into the authorities after she risked herself saving him from her obsessed brother, with the Mad Hatter himself likely returning soon. Cobblepot's dream of becoming Mayor Penguin is inching closer to reality, with no hints of anything being able to stop him.
