‘RWBY’ Vol. 4 News & Updates: Character Short Trailer Releases, Features New Animation And Grimm Harambe

"RWBY," the creation of the late CGI filmmaker Monty Oum, will finally have its fourth volume arrive late this month; to get people hyped up for the return of the CGI animated action web series, Rooster Teeth released a brand new "RWBY" Volume 4 Character Short trailer that showcases the brand new elements coming in Volume 4.

Entertainment Weekly first reported the news and shared a video of the "RWBY" Volume 4 Character Short trailer, though Rooster Teeth also shared a version on its official YouTube channel. The video shows the brand new CGI style coming with "RWBY" Volume 4, alongside introducing a new type of Gimm enemy that looks like a gorilla.

In contrast to the previous volumes which was animated entirely on the Smith Micro Software Poser, the "RWBY" Volume 4 Character Short was animated on the Autodesk Maya 3D computer graphics software just like the "RWBY Chibi" spinoff comedy series. The more apparent differences with the new animation software shown in the "RWBY" Volume 4 Character Short are increased flow capability for fabrics, less robotic movements, and smoother "jitter" physics that allow for smaller and precise movements to be properly shown.

The "RWBY Volume 4 Character Short trailer has Ruby Rose coming upon a village turned into a smoking pile of heap by a Grimm attack. Entering the village, Ruby was faced with several new Grimm which she defeated easily with her increased fighting skills after her training in Beacon academy.

It was then that Ruby met with a brand new type of Grimm enemy; a monster designed like a gorilla called a Beringel, which garnered the video many a Harambe-related comment. Though the "RWBY" Volume 4 Character Short's gorilla Grimm gave her a bit of trouble at first, Ruby eventually triumphed over the creature with her victory celebrated by a phone call from the remaining members of Team JNPR and the arrival of even more Grimm.

The "RWBY" Volume 4 Character Short then ended with a shot of the other members of Team RWBY; Weiss, Blake, and Ruby's sister Yang; in their own different paths after the tragic ending of "RWBY" Volume 3. All of the characters were in their own brand new outfits, which were previously revealed through concept art.

The character short presumably shows a bit of the events that took place in the time skip between the last volume and "RWBY" Volume 4, which will have Ruby embarking on a quest to investigate just what happened back in Beacon. "RWBY" Volume 4 will premiere on Oct. 22, excited yet?
