'Half Life 3' Release Date & Update: VR Game Mode Confirmed! Title Out In 2018?

Fans of the popular first-person shooter video games "Half Life" have been waiting for its next installment. After over a decade, reports are rife that "Half Life 3" is in the works. In addition to this, sources claim that it will arrive in 2018 with full VR support.

According to the Gamers Drop, Valve loves reality gaming. In fact, they released their own headset - the HTC Vive early this year. This triggers many to believe that Valve will make one of their popular franchise's available with full VR support, in particular, "Half Life 3."

Valve has never confirmed that development of "Half Life 3." However, several sources claim that the anticipated title is already in the works. The rumors about "Half Life 3's" development spring from the leaked file in "Dota 2."

Parent Herald previously reported that the "Dota 2" text files include a controversial "hl3.txt." "Half Life" fans were quick to speculate that this is referring to the third installment of "Half Life," which fans have been waiting for.

Valve did not comment on those reports. Gabe Newell, on the other hand, said that "Half Life 3" is not in development yet but gamers are very hopeful for the title.

Recent reports suggest that "Half Life 3" is already in development and will be released in 2018 with full VR support. Many believe that "Half Life 3" will use Valve's HTC Vive.

However, fans should still take this report with a grain of salt. Valve exec Ken Birdwell via WCCFTECH debunked the VR reports for "Half Life 3." According to him, it's not final yet because if they put all the actions from "Half Life" in VR the players will be fatigued in just five minutes.

As for the release date, reports have it that "Half Life 3" will be released in 2017 or 2018. Valve will be celebrating the franchise's 20th anniversary in 2018, which makes it a perfect timing to release the title.

Do you agree that releasing "Half Life 3" in the franchise's 20th anniversary is the best timing or do you prefer to enjoy the game earlier? Are you hopeful to see a "Half Life 3" with full VR support? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
