‘Pokémon GO’ Generation 2 Update: March 2017 Release Date Confirmed? Gen 2 Rolling Out After Gen 1’s Legendary Pokémon Reveal?

"Pokémon GO" Generation 2 is almost here though Niantic hasn't confirmed an official release date yet. Rumors, however, claimed that "Pokémon GO" Gen 2 will be released in March 2017.

According to a report from Neurogadget, "Pokémon GO" Gen 2 will roll out after Niantic releases Generation 1's final Pokémon. Those final Pokémon are the Legendary pocket monsters - Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. Further speculations claimed that Legendary Pokémon will be released this year, specifically in the next major update for "Pokémon GO."

There are also rumors that Gen 1 Pokémon that don't have evolutions would get theirs in "Pokémon GO" Gen 2, Parent Herald previously reported. Those are Crobat, Bellosom, Politoed, Slowking, Steelix, Hitmontop, Blissey, Kingdra, Scizor, Espeon, Umbreon, and Porygon 2.

Breeding is one of the rumored features in "Pokémon GO" Gen 2 aside from new Pokémon. Naturally, the Breeding feature raises the possibility of Ditto's release given the significant role that the Pokémon plays for Breeding in main Pokémon games, Neurogadget noted.

Ditto, however, isn't confirmed in "Pokémon GO" yet. Some rumors are claiming that Ditto would be region locked in Africa, though -- like other speculations -- this is still not certain and an official word from Niantic is still needed.

Other expected region-locked Pokémon expected in "Pokémon GO" Gen 2 are Miltank and Heracross. There are claims that the Normal-type Pokémon Miltank can only be found in North America and the Bug/Fighting-type Pokémon Heracross can only be acquired in Asia.

Another rumored feature in "Pokémon GO" Gen 2 are more starter Pokémon and baby eggs, with the latter possibly introducing Pichu, Pikachu's baby form, according to a previous report from Parent Herald. "Pokémon GO" Gen 2's starter Pokémon could include Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile from "Pokémon Gold and Silver."

Business Insider reported that "Pokémon GO" Gen 2 would "represent a new ecosystem of Pokémon to work with," most notably Johto region's Pokémon featured in 1999's "Pokémon Gold and Silver." Pokémon trading and trainer battles could be introduced in Gen 2, too.

Niantic's CEO and founder John Hanke said in July that "Pokémon GO" Gen 2 could introduce a bigger function for PokéStops. According to Hanke, it's "a pretty cool idea that you can acquire an object that changes the function of a PokéStop and gives it a new ability," The Verge quoted.
