Working Vs. Stay-At-Home Motherhood: Studies Reveal The Advantages Of Being A Working Mom

Working from home parents are said to have more time with their children, thus they are likely to grow up into becoming successful adults. Though working from home may be ideal for hands on parents, several pros and cons are highlighted as it was mentioned that working from home does not ensure quality time with the children.

USA Today tackled the pros and cons of being stay-at-home moms, here it was revealed that it does strengthen the bond between the mother and child. It was mentioned that work-from-home mothers have more connection with their children but their stress levels, however, increase as well as they would have to play the role of a working mother and a stay-at-home mom as well.

Telegraph then highlighted the impact of working moms, where it was stated that mothers who work from the office have their fair share of advantages as well. It was mentioned that working mothers have a positive impact on their children as working mother has some economic, educational and social benefits for children of both sexes.

Kathleen McGinn, a professor at Harvard Business School and an author of the study explains the pros of being a working mother. McGinn highlighted that working mothers do not have a negative impact on the child, when in fact, sons of working mothers are more accustomed to doing house work and childcare.

"Part of this working mothers' guilt has been, 'Oh, my kids are going to be so much better off if I stay home,' but what we're finding in adult outcomes is kids will be so much better off if women spend some time at work," McGinn stated. "This is as close to a silver bullet as you can find in terms of helping reduce gender inequalities, both in the workplace and at home."
