Parenting Teens: The Struggles Of Raising A Teenager

The teenage years of a child's life is perhaps the most difficult phase for any parent to endure. Parents do not really know how to act to certain situations as their child is goes through a lot of changes. They do not only change physically but also mentally and emotionally.

The teenage phase is often a time for many firsts, self-discovery, as well as facing some turbulence in life. But it is not only the child who faces a series of changes. In fact, parents face a lot of challenges during this time period, especially when their child starts to become independent, they start taking their own decisions and take things on their own hands.

According to the Huffington Post, teenagers usually behave rudely with their parents as they are lost in their own world, thinking about their dreams and their feelings. This is the phase that they start cutting people off their lives.

According to Empowering Parents, one of the hardest things for a parent is when their child says "I Hate You, Mom!" Once a parent gets to hear that from their child, they get hurt and it breaks their heart. These four words are so powerful that they can and have made a lot of parents cry.

Parents feel guilty and ashamed of themselves when they hear harsh words from their children and that too is making them feel as if they have failed as a parent. Even though harsh words have been said, parents never leave their children alone.

Parents always know and understand what is going on with their child. They know that the teenage phase is difficult for their child and parents help them go through this stage. Parents also know that the behavioral and emotional changes a child is going through are just normal.

Parents must accept and endure such episodes of harsh behavior. Bashing them reactively is the last thing a parent must do when dealing with such circumstances. It's normal for every parent to face such episodes but it's better to leave the kids alone for a while so that they have a dose of introspection that would make them realize how they reacted to their parents.
