Teen Cyberbullying: Two Kansas High School Girls Drastically Bashed And Threatened On Twitter, Teens Misjudged?

The two teenage girls' choice of Halloween costume started havoc on social media, leaving the teens threatened and bashed. The teens posted on Twitter a picture of a Snapchat Story which shows their Halloween costume as "rape victims." Since then, the two girls were bashed by the netizens.

In the picture posted on Twitter, two high school girls can be seen wearing a ripped white t-shirt with holes and fake blood stains. It was captioned: "Rape victims://." The girls went to a Halloween party as "rape victims."

After it had been posted on social media, netizens were very quick to judge the picture as offensive. One netizen commented saying rape victims are NOT a "funny" joke or a HALLOWEEN COSTUME and it just amazes me at how stupid some people are. Another Twitter user commented on the issue tweeting "omg are you for real? It's not even like they've made a costume that's unmistakable - why not "bmx accident"?

The two girls did not react or respond to the comments of the netizens. However, one mom of the girls spoke to MIC and cleared out the name of the two girls.

She said the girls were actually dressed as characters from the film "The Purge" to attend a Halloween party. She continued to say that someone told the girls that they looked like rape victims and they sent their friends through Snapchat a picture with a sad face because they were called by that term.

The mother continued to say that the girls made a terrible mistake in judgment by stating that caption, not discerning how the image would be misinterpreted. The girls were described by the mother as very good kids. The mom appealed that the girls don't deserve the threats they're receiving because of misinformed judgment by the netizens.

Netizens were upset by the costumes of the teen girls because as an age group, adolescents between 16 and 19 are four times more likely to be a victim of rape, attempted rape or sexual harassment than the other people in the community, the Teen Vogue has learned. It has also been reported that for each 1,000 rape cases in America, only around 334 cases are reported to police.
