Samsung Washing Machine Recall Is Now In Effect To Prevent More Risks of Injury; Exploding Washing Machines?

The U.S. division of Samsung has recalled at least 2.8 million units of their top-loading washing machine due to reports of injuries caused by a malfunctioning system.

Samsung explained on its official blog that the voluntary recall was the result of reports coming in stating that the drums in the washers can lose balance triggering violent vibrations that has an outcome of the top part separating from the main washer.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), nine injuries ranging from an injured shoulder and a broken jaw have been reported. This breaking news comes a week after the Galaxy Note 7 controversy and Samsung is still reeling from their loss due to that product recall.

The current recall of Samsung washing machines consists of the top-loading model that was produced sometime between March 2011 and November 2016. Samsung also mentioned in an official statement that there are rare cases where Samsung washing machine units can have abnormal vibrations when dealing with water-resistant items and bulky beddings. These can cause serious property damage and personal injury.

Samsung sent a request to customers to send in their Samsung washing machine with serial numbers if they want to check if their unit is affected by the problem. The Korean company Samsung is keeping silent about disclosing the washing machine models that are currently under scrutiny.

But a Samsung spokesman said that Samsung washing machine users should switch to the lower-speed delicate cycle in order to prevent the violent vibrations when cleaning the mentioned materials. The problem may not be restricted to the United States. Based on the reports, it is still unclear how many units are affected.

In reference to the lawsuit filed on August 12 in a New Jersey court, some U.S. customers have said that their Samsung washing machines have exploded during normal use. The senior vice president and general manager of home appliances of Samsung Electronics America John Herrington mentioned that the company's priority right now is the safety of its customers.

He also said that providing easy choices to all their loyal customers during the recall along with reducing safety risks is Samsung's current protocol. Actions are being taken quickly with the help of the CPSC to make it known to consumers that the disruption in their homes will now be lessened and a lot of options will be available.
